What is the criteria for the Honorable Sidney Barthwell, Jr. scholarship at Cranbrook?
The scholarship selection process is managed by Cranbook School, but it is the wish of the committee that the scholarship be awarded to demographically disadvantaged applicants from underrepresented backgrounds who demonstrate Sidney’s qualities and have overcome substantial obstacles such as educational disability or family or personal adversity.
How can I support a Barthwell Scholar?
In 2020 the JK Knights Foundation donated $200,000 to support one student for their four years at Cranbrook, including tuition and room and board. The 2020 recipient has already been selected and is currently enrolled at Cranbrook. The JK Knights Foundation will be raising an additional $200,000 to open the application process for another recipient. The Scholarship Committee aims to raise enough funds to award multiple scholarships over the next few years.
Can I donate to Cranbrook and have the funds allocated to the Honorable Sidney Barthwell, Jr. Scholarship Fund?
No. Donations must be made directly to the JK Knights Foundation, which manages The Honorable Sidney Barthwell Jr. Scholarship and makes payment directly to Cranbrook School in one annual installment.
Are donations tax deductible?
Yes. Charitable contributions to JK Knights Foundation are deductible to the extent permitted by law. The JK Knight Foundation’s federal tax ID is 82-3746102.
Why are donations for the Honorable Sidney Barthwell, Jr. scholarship being directed to JK Knights Foundation?
JK Knights Foundation established the Honorable Sidney Barthwell, Jr. Scholarship Fund and will manage the operations. Donations are made directly to the JK Knights Foundation and payments are made directly to Cranbrook School in one installment annually.
